Esports World Cup Quarterfinals: League of Legends Betting Preview

Esports World Cup Quarterfinals League of Legends Betting Preview

It’s time to get down to business in the League of Legends tournament. Following a fiercely competitive group stage, the top eight seeds have been drawn into their quarterfinal brackets. The tournament has seven matches left, and we’ll have a new League of legends world champion in just over two weeks.

The quarterfinals will feature all four representatives from the Korean LCK, as well as three from China’s LPL. Top Esports were eliminated in the group stage in a shocking turn of events, but given how the tournament has progressed thus far, it’s unwise to assume there won’t be any more surprises. Rogue Esports is the only European team to reach this stage.

Regardless of how well Rogue performed to reach the top eight, JD are the overwhelming LoL Worlds favorites here. After an incredible season in the LPL, they’re one of the favorites to win the World Championship as well.

JD Entertainment

Every single player on JD’s roster is a world-class player who could play for any team in the world. This tournament, 369, Kanavi, and Yagao have all been at the top of their games, making them the world’s most formidable trio of carry players by a wide margin. Not to mention Hope, who has been outstanding in the bot lane. This tournament, JD has been the most aggressive team, averaging nearly 18 kills per game, easily the most in the league. They’ve also paid a high death toll, 13.4, but their offensive strategy has proven to be extremely effective thus far.

Esports Rogue

Nobody can deny that there isn’t a single team in the European region – or anywhere else in the world, really – that can unseat Rogue. However, they are now in a different league and must sit at the same table as some of the world’s giants. While they finished second in their group and even defeated Top Esports in the first round robin, they haven’t looked particularly convincing since. A kill-death ratio of 1.02 at this stage is concerning for a top eight team, and while Comp’s 5.2 KDA and 4.7 kill-rate are excellent, defeating JD Gaming will be an impossible task.

Never Give Up: T1 vs. Royal

  • T1 is expected to win.
  • Odds: 1.42
  • OKBET is a betting site.
  • When: Wednesday, October 21st, 23:00 CEST

This match is a little more difficult to predict. While the LoL Worlds quaterfinal betting odds favor T1, there’s no doubt this will be a thrilling battle between two gaming titans.

T1

The Korean juggernaut has won the world championship three times and is now vying for a fourth. They haven’t played in a LoL Worlds final in over five years, and they haven’t won the title in six years, so they’ll be looking to change that. They only lost one game during the round robin, to Fnatic, but have charged into the next round with all guns blazing. They’ve been on a four-game winning streak since that loss, and it will be difficult for RNG to snap it.

Never Give Up, Royal

RNG finished second in their group, riding a four-game winning streak until losing their final round-robin game to Gen.G. They had a disappointing summer, finishing 5th-6th in the LPL, but this is their chance to turn things around. RNG has the lowest first-blood rate in the league at 28%, but T1’s isn’t much higher at 33% right now. Both teams prefer to take their time and build up gold and turrets before going in for the kill, so it’ll be interesting to see how their strategies play out against each other.

KIA vs. Gen.G

  • Gen.G is expected to win.
  • Odds: 1.26
  • Thunderpick is a betting site.
  • When: Tuesday, October 22nd, 23:00 CEST

DWG are the underdogs in this all-LCK matchup on Sunday. LCK’s fourth seed will face its winner, and it will be difficult to beat the superteam Gen.G, which has been improving all year.

Gen.G

Aside from JD, Gen.G are heavy favorites to win their first World Championship. Their kill-death ratio of 2.37 is the highest in the tournament, and they have a creep score of 34.1. They have the lowest death rate in the tournament, 7.0, and the third highest average kills per game, around 16.6. GG is full of confidence after winning the LPL for the first time this year, and nothing stands in their way of winning their first Worlds title as well.

KIA DWG

DWG was in the same group as their European rivals G2 Esports, a rivalry that began in 2019 when G2 knocked DWG out of the Worlds quarterfinals. G2 are no longer with us, and DWG has a chance to recreate the magic of 2020, when they won their first and only Worlds title. They were seeded second in their group, and their highlight of the tournament thus far has been their early group stage demolition of powerhouse JD gaming. To get past the title favorites GG, they’ll need to rekindle some of that zeal.

Edward Gaming vs. DRX

  • Edward Gaming is expected to win.
  • Odds: 1.52
  • Thunderpick is a betting site.
  • When: Wednesday, October 23rd, 23:00 CEST

Last year’s LoL Worlds champions EDG face the resurgent DRX, who have been on fire since the tournament’s play-ins began. The odds favor EDG, but if DRX is on form, it’s a coin flip.

DRX

Zeka has been a joy to watch since the play-ins, and if any player has ever deserved to win the Worlds based solely on their individual performances, it is him. He has a KDA of 6.6 and averages 5.3 kills and 1.3 deaths per game. This tournament’s wildcard entry was DRX. It’s incredible how they’ve progressed from underdogs to legitimate title contenders.

Gaming, Edward

EDG did not have to compete in the play-ins, but they did have to compete for a spot in the LPL’s regional playoffs. This appears to be a bit of a humiliation for the reigning champions, but the important thing is that they’re here, and aside from the two times they’ve crumbled against T1, they’ve looked pretty good. They’ll have to get past an in-form and confident team to advance, and it’s going to be a close race.

The odds can change at any time.
